DESPITE more than two months of bad weather, judges were impressed by the standard of entries at Wellington's Spring Flower Show, writes Barry Knott.

Show secretary Sheena Page said: "Growing conditions have been difficult this year - with daffodils in particular being affected by slugs and snails.

"But there was still plenty of colour for visitors to enjoy at the show which was held at Wellington Prep School. Understandably, entries were slightly down on last year."

“Hopefully, the weather will be much improved for our summer show which will be held at Wellington School in August, It could not be any worse.

“One innovation this year was the selling of fuchsias plants. The idea is for people to grow them and to enter them in a special class at the summer show.”

The spring show was the first to be held since the death of its long-serving president Richard Fox. “Richard was a great supporter of our shows and he is greatly missed,” added Sheena, who has herself been secretary of the Wellington Flower Show Society for a number of years.
