A POPULAR event in Wellington’s calendar is making a welcome return this weekend, after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

The Friends of Wellington Park have been busy organising their Annual Spring Fayre in Wellington’s Park which will be held on today Sunday, May 1.

It starts at 12.30pm with the parade and display by Wellington Majorettes (pictured, centre) and will be followed by the official opening by the Mayor, Cllr Mark Lithgow.

The event has not been able to go ahead since 2019 - when more than 1,000 people attended - because of Covid restrictions.

Sandra Nunn, of the Friends, said: “Everyone is delighted that the fair will go ahead this year after such a long absence.

“This year there will be more than 50 stalls, some of which will be selling their craft produce, some selling plants and many other goods will be on offer.

“Some stalls will be promoting local clubs, associations and organisations.

“There will be entertainment on the bandstand, starting with Wellesley Park Primary School Choir singing, followed by Avtar Bollywood Dance Display and then Wellington School Choir.

“Then there will be a magic show from Malcolm the Magician who will be doing walkabouts before and after his act, which children will love, followed by the Wellington Operatic Society singing. There will also be the popular dog show. In between the acts will be popular music playing.

“And don’t forget the ever popular Fun Dog Show, a really fun and extremely popular attraction at the fayre.

“Hot and cold food will be available and a licensed bar, while The Friends will be serving teas, coffees and soft drinks.

“Angel Art will be there to paint the children’s faces (and the adults if they wish)! An inflatable slide will provide fun for the young ones and there will be lots of fun and games to keep children happy, and happy children mean happy parents.”
