THE influence of the Sanford family of Nynehead Court on the landscape between Nynehead and Wellington will be described in a talk by David Rabson, co-author of The Book of Nynehead.
These changes include the laying out of parkland and the building of a fine three-arch bridge over an ornamental lake.
The Sanfords moved to Nynehead in 1590 and remained there until about 1900. It was a Sanford who took the initiative in building Wellington Monument. The family had interests elsewhere – in south-east London where streets are named after them and in Lynton in north Devon.
The talk, in aid of Wellington Local History & Museum Society, is in Wellington Prep School Hall, South Street (by the first mini-roundabout) on Thursday, July 25, at 7.30pm. Entry is £3 (£2 for society members).
