A wildlife charity has appealed for residents across Somerset to begin recording their sightings of roadkill.
People’s Trust for Endangered Species is calling on volunteers to note their sightings of dead animals on the road through their free app to aid their conservation efforts.
David Wembridge, Mammal Surveys Coordinator at People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) says: “Although roadkill isn’t nice to see, it can be a useful indication of where mammals are living, and where they aren’t.
"Contrary to what you’d think, a lot of roadkill in an area can be a sign that there are lots of animals nearby. But, to build a national picture of how our different mammal species are faring, and to understand which species are most at risk and need our help, we need more people to take part.”
The Mammals on the Road app can be found on the Apple Store and on Google Play.
