THE adventures of two Wellington cats are becoming a viral sensation as word of them spreads through their own dedicated social media page.

A Facebook page titled ‘The Adventures and Journeys of Elvis and Bagheera’ now has nearly 600 followers who keep up to date with the comings and goings of the two feline friends.

Three-legged Bagheera made headlines three years ago when he hitched a ride to Bristol Airport on the Falcon Flyer bus, while Elvis is colloquially known around town as the ‘launderette cat’.

Bagheera is owned by a family who live on the Cades estate and spends a lot of his time waiting with airport coach passengers at the nearby bus stop.

He has also become well-known in recent months to customers of the new Lidl supermarket on the opposite side of the B3187 road, which he frequently visits.

Black cat Elvis wanders the town centre freely and is looked after by a loose coalition of business people, including the Nook and Cranny’s Maxine Price, Charlotte Beatty, and Sharon Frost, and Wellington Kebab and Pizza owner Ahmet Boga.

The Nook and Cranny, which relocated from next door to the North Street launderette to High Street, keeps a collection box where people can donate money to help cover the cost of cat food and veterinary bills for Elvis.

He has a feeding station and a bed in the launderette, and has even learned to wait for traffic lights to turn red before crossing the road in Fore Street.

One launderette customer said: “He is such a great cat and wanders in and out like he owns the place, but then you also see him outside the Co-op and the animal charity shop and other places.

“It is like he has nine homes, let alone nine lives.”
