WELLINGTON COLTS 27

YEOVIL COLTS 21

THE final game of the season saw Yeovil Colts visit Wellington, for a Friday

night thriller. The opening ten minutes of the first half were very cagey

with both teams battling for the upper hand. Yeovil were proving to be a tenacious

well drilled side.

From a Yeovil scrum on their own 22, Mikey Taylor charged down a clearance, resulting

in a Yeovil lineout, subsequently called not straight. From the Wellington

scrum and after a couple of pick and goes, Riley Hayman muscled over

for the first score of the half, extras missed.

The game was being played in the middle half of the pitch, both sides

competing ferociously at the breakdown.

However, Wellington pressure, led Yeovil having a lineout in their own

22, which Wellinton managed to snaffle.

The colossus O’Ryan then crashed over for the second try to Wellington,

the extras going begging again.

Wellington were now on the wrong side of the Ref and getting penalised at

both scrum time and the breakdown, and they needed another score to ease

the pressure that Yeovil were exerting.

Charlie Higgs, provided that much needed break with a scintillating break

from his own 22, before being hauled down, where the ball was knocked on,

deep into the Yeovil half.

After a number of plays and great hands by the

backs, Welly were awarded a penalty, 10 yards from the Yeovil line. A quick

tap and go by the electric Mikey Taylor, who dived over the line for the third

try. 15-0 to wellington half time.

Wellington were straight out of the blocks after half time. Welly gathered

their own re-start, a chip through by Taylor, a couple of subsequent rucks

and Matt Harper dotted down over the Yeovil line. Taylor made sure of

the conversion this time. Yeovil were smarting and came back with a couple

of scores of their own, including a penalty try! Welly dug deep and advanced

into the Yeovil 22. From a scrum ten yards out, Lewis Leslie now at scrum

half, saw the opportunity, picked up from the base of the scrum and went

blind. And despite being tackled managed to put the ball over the line for try

number 4, Jayden Hawkins missed the extras.

Yeovil hit back. From a Yeovil ruck in the Wellington half, their 13 took

a brilliant line and powered through

a couple of tackles to score next to the Wellington posts, with a simple

conversion for Yeovil. The remaining minutes of the game were fiercely contested,

although neither side added any points. All the Wellington Colts would

like to wish Oscar, the best of luck in his new career in the Parachute Regiment,

that he joined on the Sunday after the game.
