SAMPFORD Arundel’s Fete and Flower Show was once again a blooming success on July 13.
Wellington’s town crier, Andrew Norris, opened the event in traditional booming style by proclaiming the fete’s long history and commanding everyone to enjoy the festivities and to reach into their pockets and spend a the various stalls.
This lively opening was followed by a stirring display by Wellington Majorettes and a visiting team of morris dancers called Enigma.
Children loved the bouncy castle and the crockery smash and adults the coconut shy, the skittles, numerous other stalls and the always popular cream teas served up by friends of Sampford Arundel school (FOSAS)
The newly elected MP Gideon Amos made an appearance and he too enjoyed trying his hand at the skittles before presenting all the trophies won in in the flower show.
“We aim to make it a traditional village fete, which people seem to enjoy and this year we think we succeeded” said the chairman John Troake.
"Despite the changeable weather and competition from other events locally the attendance was excellent and the sum raised for village organisations was about £2,300."
