SOMERSET Council is organising more drainage repairs in Rockwell Green just weeks after a major project was completed.

The council replaced the blocked drains between Dobree Park and Popes Lane last autumn, but flooding and ice have still been causing issues and hazards for local residents.

The council has now revealed that the initial drainage works were damaged by flooding which hammered the area almost immediately as repairs were completed.

The repairs appear to have shifted the problem downhill slightly with water entering drains near Dobree Park but reappearing above the crossroads, which accommodates a daily stream of traffic.

A council spokesperson said: “We are aware of concerns regarding this stretch of road.

“Work was carried out in September to improve drainage and was completed, but unfortunately flooding that month caused fresh damage to the system and a further blockage.

“We are planning to carry out work to rectify this as soon as possible.”

Rockwell Green residents have raised concerns about the continuing issues, as the council has not specified a time for future repairs.

Due to the winter months bringing harsher weather conditions, residents have expressed their concern for potential icy hazards and extreme flooding.

For weeks, the drainage works inconvenienced residents and drivers accessing Rockwell Green and Wellington from the A38 and now, local people must be prepared for further interruptions.
