A new priest is to be appointed to take charge of St Mary's Church in West Buckland.
At a ceremony on Thursday, October 5, Reverend Colin Simpson will assume his new role as the priest in charge for the church of St Mary the Virgin.
Hailing from West Coker, Rev Simpson secured the post after a 'gruelling' one hour and 45 minute interview.
A report by the Church England said: "Rev Simpson and his wife were then shown the Rectory and taken to Odette’s Tea Rooms for lunch escorted by a small party drawn from both our Parishes.
"Following a short walking tour of Wellington, all returned to the church where preparations were going on for the formal interview starting at 2.30 p.m.in the Hall led by Bishop Michael, Archdeacon Simon, our church Patron (William Pulman), the Area and Lay Deans and the four parish Representatives – Judith Dufour ad Andrew Maddocks for St John’s.
"The interview was long, gruelling, productive, AND lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes!! The Wardens of both Parishes want to record their gratitude to all those who welcomed Rev Colin and made drinks and eats available. It was an impressive effort and much appreciated by the candidate and all the visitors."
