WELLINGTON residents are being urged to fill out a survey to inform the council about their priorities for open spaces across the town.
The majority of open spaces in Wellington are currently owned and maintained by Somerset Council, but they will be transferred to Wellington Town Council from April 1, 2025.
Darren Hill, the new open spaces manager for Wellington Town Council, wants to hit the ground running when assets are taken on and are therefore asking the public to let him know where things currently stand.
The main portion of the survey asks residents to rate the current quality and cleanliness of open spaces as well as the overall quality of hanging baskets in the town centre, which are due to go up at the end of May.
Residents are also asked to rank their priorities for the town’s open spaces so the council can be informed on what the public would like to see more of in the future.
Additionally, there is an optional section of the survey focussed on the quality of play areas around town. Families and childcare providers are encouraged to fill in this section so Mr Hill is aware which ones need the most attention when they are taken over.
Mr Hill said: “This survey is a great opportunity for the people of Wellington to tell us about their priorities for open spaces before we take them on and can help shape how they are managed moving forward.”
