THE reopening of Wellington’s town centre public library after a £1.4 million refurbishment project has been delayed.
The Fore Street library, which closed 14 months ago and relocated to a temporary home in the former over-60s club in North Street, was expected to be ready to use this August.
But the timescale has now slipped by a few weeks and it is now not expected to be opened until the end of September.
A Somerset Council spokesperson told the Wellington Weekly: “The slippage is due to previous delays caused by bad weather in the spring which could not be recovered.”
The refurbishment project has been troubled since even before it started with a series of increases in costs being revealed, taking it from an original estimate of £900,000.
The council said only in March this year that ‘good progress’ was being made, with an extensive upgrade of the upper floors completed.
