A wet and stormy coronation weekend is forecast for Wellington.
The Met Office is predicting that the Bank Holiday weekend will be a wet one in Wellington, with rainfall predicted for Friday and Saturday.
Lightning storms are also forecast on Friday, from noon, when dark clouds and high temperatures are forecast to result in thunder and lightning.
On and off rain is forecast from 6am on Friday to 5pm, before constant rainfall on Saturday.
On the day of the King's coronation the Met Office is forecasting rainfall over Wellington from 7am to 7pm, with temperatures reaching a high of 14 degrees Celsius.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Steven Keates, said: “A further area of rain is expected to move into southwest England early on Saturday, moving east and north through the day with some heavy bursts at times."
Sunday is expected to be a dry day, with some cloudy skies and temperatures as high as 16 degrees Celsius.
Residents of the Abbeyfield Old Vicarage home held an early coronation party on Wednesday, to beat the rainy weather. The party goers enjoyed a coffee morning followed by a BBQ lunch which was organised by senior house manager Becks South and served up by cooks Donna Munson and Toni Brewer as well as manager Clare Scholes and assistant Lorraine Abolson.
Coronation revellers would be well advised to keep an umbrella handy if they are attending one or more of the many celebration events on in town this weekend.
