A PUB that nearly closed before being purchased by locals is flourishing and has just appointed a new Head Chef.
Lucy Faulkner, one of the joint managers at the New Inn, Halse, said: “The New Inn is really thriving and is a real community success story-it has been embraced by all.”
The New Inn has appointed a new chef in Kaan Atasoy to help drive it forward. He will need little introduction having spent more than 10 years working locally, including at The Globe, in Milverton, which has recently closed.
Lucy said: “Kaan is an experienced chef who has worked across a wide variety of venues. He has added some fabulous new dishes to our menu, as well as retaining the classic favourites.
“He has brought a freshness to the menu, so we now have a contemporary menu alongside signature dishes including slow cooked belly pork.
“We have also got a brand-new cafe and lunch menu which includes serving breakfast/brunch dishes every day from 10.30am, and are now making our own bread, so we have an array of focaccia bread sandwiches available.
“As well as your traditional pub food like fish and chips, we also offer various specials that make it slightly easier on the purse strings.”
So, what was it that attracted Kaan, who has previously worked at Bills and Hubbox in Taunton, to the New Inn?
“There is an amazing atmosphere about the place and it just feels right. That was the thing that really struck me, everyone was so friendly,” he said.
“I love the community aspect of the place, and I have had a really nice welcome so it's just a case of building blocks from here.
“I’m hoping to bring a bit more fresh seasonal food and a bit more inspiration.
“I’m really happy with the way that things have taken off.”
