PRIME Minister Liz Truss had made the right decision to resign, said local MP Rebecca Pow.
Ms Pow said it was now important to elect a new leader ‘as swiftly as possible’, potentially within a week.
She said: “Then, we can secure the stability we need to get on with addressing the things that really matter to my constituents and which I focus on constantly as our MP.
“Stability and certainty regarding direction of travel are also critical for our financial markets and the economy as a whole.
“I am confident this can be achieved with rapid action, with a leader that we can all get behind, as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, Taunton Deane Lib Dem Parliamentary hopeful Gideon Amos called for a General Election to be held.
Mr Amos said: “People in Taunton Deane deserve a lot better than this incompetence and chaos of the Conservatives in Government, sending mortgage payments spiralling while the NHS is stretched to breaking point.
“The country needs a General Election to put the Conservatives out of Government for good and Conservative MPs should be doing their patriotic duty by no longer propping up their own chaotic governments when we all know they are out of steam, out of ideas, and out of favour with the British people.”
