A 42-year-old man has pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to a robbery at Rockwell Green Post Office and Stores.

James Briggs, of no fixed abode, had been on remand since the robbery on Thursday, June 1. He pleaded guilty at Bristol on Friday.

Two other men alleged to have been involved in the robbery, Brett Spiller, 27, and Dean Spiller, 36, appeared alongside Briggs and pleaded not guilty.

Their trial is set to take place at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, November 13. Briggs will be sentenced after the outcome of their trial.

The post office and stores at Rockwell Green, opposite the Barley Mow pub, has been run for 15 years by Mr and Mrs Haran Niranjan, who are originally from Sri Lanka.

Mr Niranjan’s wife Meera was in the store on her own at the time of the robbery. Mr Niranjan learned of the robbery while he was in Wellington.

Because the two men have pleaded not guilty, the WWN cannot go into any more detail about the incident.
