A 42-year-old man who robbed Rockwell Green Post Office and Stores earlier this year has been sentenced to seven years in prison by Bristol Crown Court.

James Briggs, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to robbery at the crown court in July and had been waiting for sentencing.

Two other men involved in the robbery, Dean Spiller, 27, and Dean Spiller, 36, both of Markesbury Road, Bedminster, have also been jailed. They originally pleaded not guilty and later changed their pleas.

Dean Spiller was sentenced to 48 months and Brett Spiller to 43 months. The robbery took place on Thursday, June 1.

The post office and stores at Rockwell Green, opposite the Barley Mow pub, has been run for more than 15 years by Mr and Mrs Haran Niranjan who are originally from Sri Lanka.

Mr Niranjan’s wife Meera was in the store on her own at the time of the robbery.
