POLICE hunting a car driver who ran off following a three-vehicle collision in Wellington at the weekend say they have ‘positive lines of inquiry’.
The smash happened in Longforth Road, near Roly Poly Green, shortly after 8 pm on Saturday (August 3).
A woman and her two young children in one car and four young people in a second vehicle all escaped serious injury in the crash, which demolished a garden wall.
The driver of the other car, a silver Audi saloon, was believed to have quickly left the scene.
Local residents were praised for rushing from their homes to help those involved, with one driving the woman to hospital in Taunton, where she was found to have broken her wrist.
A man in the second car said on social media: “Thanks for the support from everybody who helped my girlfriend, my two mates, and me.
“It is so nice seeing people be so caring so quickly, helped me get my mum from down the road, the doctor helping on scene, and looking after us until the ambulances came.”
A police spokesperson said: “The driver of one of the cars has left the scene on foot before police arrived and inquiries are ongoing to locate him.
“Four people from one vehicle were taken to hospital by ambulance, one of whom sustained a broken ankle.
“Three people from a second vehicle received medical attention at the scene.”
Police said any witnesses who had not yet spoken with them should call 101 and quote the reference number 5224203112.
