POLICE are investigating after a second ‘knifepoint’ robbery in Wellington in the space of seven weeks.

A man was stabbed in the shoulder in the first incident, which happened in Swains Lane on the evening of March 7.

Police said at the time they believed any risk to the public was ‘low’, although they were struggling to understand the circumstances because the victim would not talk to them.

Now, a man has reported being robbed of a vape in Mantle Street by another man who claimed to have a knife, although no weapon was seen.

The latest incident happened close to the junction of Mantle Street and Bulford at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, April 24.

The attacker walked away afterwards and the shocked victim was left to make his way to a nearby public house, where he called the police.

The suspect was described as white with a brown beard, aged between 25 and 35 years, about 5 ft 11 ins tall, slim, and wearing a beige hoody with the hood up.

A spokesperson said: “Officers do have a positive line of inquiry to follow, but if you have any information, dashcam, or other footage which could help, please call 101 and give the reference 5224105157.”

The earlier suspect incident was described as a white male, about 5 ft 8 ins tall, aged early to mid 20s, and wearing a dark colour puffer jacket.

Police said they were keeping an open mind about any link between the two incidents.
