A new battery storage system is to be built at Hele Manor Farm in Bradford on Tone after planners showed a green light to the proposal.

The development will see the erection of sixteen battery units and eight transformers housed in containers reaching a height of 2.9 metres.

The battery units will be joined by a DNO substation, switch room and a number of other ancillary buildings.

The storage facility will hold as much as 20 megaWatts of power, to be used for local supply at the converted barnyard, with excess energy supplying the National Grid.

The units will be built across a site just smaller than a hectare, which is currently vacant.

Stor Power, who are overseeing the Hele Manor works, said in a statement: "The proposed battery storage facility would provide a valuable opportunity to bring additional utility scale battery operation into the commercial market place, building skills in this sector and helping to drive down costs, assisting with establishing the technology in the UK and facilitating future deployment."

The plans for the new storage facility have now been given the go ahead by planners at Somerset Council.
