LANGFORD Lakes is providing a ‘magical’ festive experience for families who have been following the illuminated Enchantment trail which winds through the farm’s Christmas trees.

The festive trail is a brand-new creative collaboration between Somerset sculptor and tree-carving artist, Matthew Crabb, and Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, on the outskirts of Wellington.

Award-winning artist, Matthew, approached Langford Lakes with his vision for a magical Christmas trail, suggesting the distinctive Christmas tree woodland and lakeside landscape of the farm would provide a stunning backdrop for his awe-inspiring, large-scale sculptures.

With approval from long-time owners the Hendy family, Matthew has created a number of new, original wood carvings and mixed media sculptures specially designed to complement the landscape of Langford Lakes.

The creations include a four-metre-high dragon, large, floating swans, among other things, which can be found along the one-kilometre trail.

Matthew said: “I have always felt that the illuminated trails out there are pretty underwhelming and don’t really offer much for young children.

“My focus is less about just putting coloured lights up and more about creating a fantasy and magic-themed adventure.”

Established more than 20 years ago, Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is a family-run business owned and run by Reg and Ann Hendy and their two sons and daughters-in-law, Shaun, Trudy, Nick and Clare.

Shaun Hendy said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to open up the farm to the public in a new way.

“When Matthew approached us with his vision, we immediately knew that the landscape of mature Christmas trees and the lakes would work perfectly with his wooden sculptures and floating installations, to create something new and unique.”

Enchantment will be open on selected nights up to and including December 30, from 5pm until 9pm.
