RESIDENTS of Wellesley Park, Wellington, were left stunned on Sunday morning (July 7) when lightning appeared to have struck twice as a luxury car crashed into a row of parked vehicles.

It was an almost identical incident to one which occurred in March when a Land Rover Discovery crashed into a line of parked cars in the same location.

The latest smash involved a Range Rover which ploughed into parked cars and a wall in Wellesley Park shortly after 11.30am on Sunday.

The driver, a man aged 30, was arrested at the scene by police and taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, to be checked as a precaution.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.

A spokesperson said: “He was discharged from hospital a short time later, taken into custody, and interviewed.

“He has since been released under investigation and inquiries continue.”

One resident who saw the aftermath of Sunday’s incident told the Wellington Weekly: “It is bizarre. Both vehicles were big SUVs and they hit the same row of parked cars.”

In the March incident, four parked cars were shunted into each other and one was written-off.

The wreckage which littered the street was said to have left it ‘looking like a war zone.’

The driver on that occasion, a 22-year-old woman, was later fined and banned from driving for three years after admitting being more than twice over the legal drink-driving limit and driving without insurance.
