A SURVEY of Milverton residents has shown overwhelming support for the takeover of the village pub by the community.
The Globe Inn is the only pub in the village, and it could be left empty after the owners decided to move on after 17 years of running the business.
A community group has been at work trying to keep the bar open, with villagers chipping in to help raise the £525,000 needed to buy it.
A recent survey of residents by the Milverton Community Benefit Society has now revealed ‘overwhelming’ support with the project, with 100 per cent of respondents saying it was important to have a pub in Milverton.
Over 90 per cent of respondents pledged to use the pub once a month, with more than 70 per cent expressing an interest in contributing financially.
The society are now preparing to publish their business plan to the village which is set to outline the group’s financial projections and a business model for The Globe going forward.
The society thanked villagers for their contributions, pledging to make The Globe a thing of pride. In a statement they said: “Thank you to each and every one of you who participated in the survey and made pledges. Your enthusiasm and support are the driving force behind our efforts to create a vibrant and community-owned space at The Globe.
“Stay tuned for updates, and let's continue working together to make The Globe a place we can all be proud of.”
