Some Wellington students will be studying from home today as the first of two consecutive days of strike action by teachers gets underway.
A two-day strike by the National Education Union began on Wednesday March 15 and is causing widespread disruption across the country.
The 48-hour walkout by teachers has been called as part of an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. The government has offered teachers a 3% pay rise this year, but the offer has been rejected.
Court Fields School in Wellington has been forced to call off classes for every year group other than year 11s. Other year groups will be studying remotely. The partial closure will remain in place until the end of the strike.
Beech Grove Primary School, St John's Primary School and Wellesley Park Primary School will remain open as usual throughout the duration of the strikes.
