A UKRAINIAN father of two, Oleksandr Rudko, has been named as the man who died in a car crash on the Blackdown Hills above Wellington earlier this month.

Mr Rudko, aged in his 40s, lived with wife Tetiana and their children in Romford, East London.

He was travelling in a white Peugeot 3008 from the direction of Blagdon Hill when it crashed near Red Lane, Churchinford.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident shortly after midnight on February 9 and Mr Rudko was declared dead at the scene.

A fund-raising appeal started by friend by Olga Marunchak has raised nearly £11,000 to help Mr Rudko’s family cope with ‘unexpected financial burdens’.

Ms Marunchak said: “Oleksandr was more than just a man, he was a pillar of strength, a devoted husband, and a loving father.

“He was always busy, always hardworking, and always helping, whether it was for his family, friends, or anybody in need.

“His kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to providing for his loved ones were what defined him.

“Now, his wife and children are left not only with overwhelming grief but also with unexpected financial burdens, funeral costs, household expenses, and the challenge of raising two young children without their father.”

Ms Marunchak said donations would go toward funeral and memorial costs, immediate family living expenses, and longer-term support for the children’s future.

She said: “Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference in easing their burden and ensuring they do not have to face this tragedy alone.

“If Oleksandr ever helped you, made you smile, or inspired you with his kindness, this is a chance to give back.

“Let us rally around his family and show them they are not alone.”

Police said anybody with information about the crash should call 101 and give the reference 5225034822.
