AT least one person was injured on Friday afternoon (December 1) when a car crash closed the A38 between Wellington and Taunton.
There were reports of multiple vehicles being involved in the collision at the Heatherton Grange crossroads junction for West Buckland and Bradford on Tone.
The accident happened shortly after 12.30 pm near the World’s End public house and Sheppy’s cider farm.
Queues of traffic quickly built up as far back as Chelston roundabout in the Wellington direction and past Rumwell Farm Shop in the Taunton direction.
Police and ambulance services were on the scene and traffic began to move slowly through the accident site after about an hour.
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said a double-crewed land ambulance was despatched and took one casualty to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
Travel Somerset issued a social media alert advising motorists to look for alternative routes for their journeys on Friday afternoon which in turn began causing congestion on surrounding rural roads.
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokeswoman told the Wellington Weekly: ""We were called following a report of a two-vehicle collision in Heatherton Park, Bradford-on-Tone.
"Thankfully, it is believed no one was seriously injured.
"The road was closed while emergency services attended and has since reopened."
