A ONE-in-a-billion spherical egg found near Wellington has sold at auction for £420.

The spherical egg was discovered in January by Ali Greene, 57, while she was working at Fenton Farm in Holcombe Rogus.

As a volunteer of the recently retired Devon Rape Crisis helpline, Ali had hoped to auction the egg to raise funds for the essential service.

After appearing on Have I Got News For You at the end of January in a bid to promote the egg’s sale, it was successfully sold last week by the auctioneers, Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood.

The auctioneers had said the highest price for an egg of its kind was £220. Ali’s egg secured £420 when it sold last week to a private collector.

All funds will go to Devon Rape Crisis.
