THE 20th Wellington Spring Flower Show took place at Wellington Prep School on Saturday.

The later date this year meant that, as well as the usual wonderful display of daffodils, more tulips were on show. The fine weather earlier in the season ensured plenty was available to pick from the garden and once again exhibitors provided visitors with a fabulous display of bulbs, blooms and blossom.

The show was pleased to welcome some new exhibitors this year. The judge, Colin Trewren, formerly of Taunton Deane Parks Department, did a thorough job and was impressed by the standard of the exhibits. Visitors were able to buy plants from Whitepost Nursery and Chelston Nurseries, and jewellery was also for sale.

Somerset Wildlife Trust was also there to promote its valuable work. Visitor numbers were up on last year, which was pleasing.

The Summer Show is on Saturday, August 31, at the ARC Centre, Wellington School and schedules are available online www.wellingtonflowershow.co.uk. Hard copies will soon be available in the library.

A small group of gardening enthusiasts run the show which receives no financial support and is totally reliant on income from advertising in the schedule and sponsorship. The show is looking for sponsorship for the championship classes and new advertisers. Anyone who would like to help the show is asked to contact secretary Sheena Page at [email protected]
