ALMOST six months after the Wellington Weekly reported that Somerset Council was taking legal action against the owner of the former E J Teare newsagents, no progress had been made.
The local authority commenced the action after the owner failed to abide by an order to improve the building, which the council said was 'adversely affecting its land.'
An order issued in May was ignored, prompting the council to instruct their legal team to secure the improvements. Somerset Council workers have had to intervene on a number of occasions to carry out repairs to the building.
The former newsagents ceased trading seven years ago, and has remained vacant ever since, with the building apparently left to deteriorate.
Pressed for an update on proceedings this month a spokesperson for Somerset Council said it was a ‘long and complex process’ and that there were no update to give.
What appears to be a stall in the enforcement action could mean the town centre eyesore remains a blot on Wellington without an apparent end in sight.
