Looking for a New Year’s resolution? How about talking more about death? The second meeting of the Wellington Death Cafe to take place Tuesday, 24 January.
After an extremely successful meeting of over 20 participants, Death Cafe Wellington is holding another session at Wellington Library on Tuesday, 24 January, from 11 to 1 pm.
Death Cafe Wellington is an opportunity for individuals to come together and discuss all aspects of death, in a relaxed and respectful setting.
Adults of any age and experience are invited to attend, to enjoy refreshments and talk about death, dying, and beyond. There is no set agenda, and it is not bereavement support. Cake will be provided but participants will need to bring their own hot drink.
Nicole Durman, an NHS nurse living in Wellington, has been facilitating Death Cafe Taunton in-person and online since 2017. She said: “A new year is always an opportunity for self-improvement or simply trying something new. Many of our cafe participants find that having an open and honest discussion about death can help them to feel better about their fears, to become comfortable planning, and to live their best lives.”
Death Cafe is a global movement, with the aim of increasing awareness of death and to help people make the most of their lives. It was started by Jon Underwood in the UK in 2011. It exists today as a not-for-profit social franchise, with death cafes popping up all the time, all over the world.
