THE streets of Wellington have been spruced up with the addition of new planters in more than a dozen locations around the town centre.

The planters, some of which are wooden and some made of a composite material, are on the High Street, Mantle Street, the entrance to the Fore Street car park and other locations.

The composite planters, which feature a subtle flower design and gold trim, have been planted with viburnum tinus: the wooden planters have yet to be planted, but will be shortly.

Annette Kirk, the deputy town clerk, said Somerset West and Taunton Council helped to foot the bill.

Annette added: “The council gave us some cash from the Emergency High Street Recovery Fund, to support town centres as part of the council’s commitment to recovery, investment, jobs and opportunity.”

She added that the planters cost in the region of £20,000.
