THE new Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, has said she will do everything she can to promote the town in a positive fashion.
Cllr Lloyd took over from out-going Mayor, Gary James, during Wellington Town Council’s annual council meeting on Monday (May 13).
“If I can do half as good a job as Gary has done, I will be very pleased,” she told councillors and members of the public.
Cllr Lloyd joined Wellington Town Council in 2007 and served as Mayor from 2015-16.
Mr James, who did not seek re-election at the local elections on May 2, and his wife Bee were thanked by councillors for their efforts over the past year in which they had attended 381 functions and events.?After handing over the chain of office to Cllr Lloyd, Mr James wished the councillors well and left the meeting.
Cllr Mark Lithgow, who has lived in Wellington since 1985, has been elected as the Deputy Mayor.
