MP Gideon Amos has vowed to keep fighting for the return of a Post Office to Wellington town centre.
Mr Amos made the pledge during a pre-Christmas visit to the Royal Mail’s Taunton sorting office on Friday (December 20).
He toured the Chip Lane facility with Sean Monk, one of the managers, and chatted to staff about their roles, and met his own ‘postie’ Dave Finch, along with Sam Cox, who lives in Wellington.
Mr Amos said: “It was great to be able to thank my postie and all the posties working over Christmas.
“It is very important that we keep our Post Offices going.
“I really want to see a Post Office in Wellington again, we are missing that, and we need Government support to make it happen.
“Posties do great work, looking out for people as well as delivering the post.”
Mr Monk said: “Please be patient with us, you will get your presents and letters before Christmas Day.
“This week is another bumper week, so far we have delivered 220,000 letters and 60,000 parcels.
“We are delivering parcels seven days a week and letters six days a week up to 9 pm each day.
“The team of 180 people, with additional support of 19 agency staff, are working tirelessly to deliver Christmas to our customers.”
Wellington has been without a Post Office since 2019, after the closure of the One Stop convenience store in High Street which housed it, leaving only a facility in Rockwell Green.
