PEOPLE were this week being asked for their views on proposals to improve safety on a killer road near Wellington.
Somerset County Council wants to introduce a 50 mph speed limit on the A38 from Whiteball Hill to Perry Elm roundabout and along the Wellington Relief Road to Foxdown Hill.
‘Average speed’ cameras will also be installed and other work will be carried out along the stretch of the A38 past the Beambridge Hotel.
Nine fatal crashes have occurred on the road in the past 20 years and two years ago Beambridge owners Craig and Karen Holmes collected a petition with more than 1,300 signatures demanding safety measures.
Council project manager Martyn Evans said: “There have been numerous serious and sometimes fatal collisions on this stretch of road where speed has probably been a contributory factor.”
Mr Evans said as well as the speed reduction the work would include improved signing and lining and visibility splays where necessary to help improve overall safety.
