MILVERTON Music celebrates its 20th birthday on Friday with Andrew Garbutt, Bev Blackmore, Tony Batten and Giles Newman Turner on stage.

It all started in a back room at the Globe Inn, Milverton, with five friends played music every Wednesday evening. As the popularity of the sessions grew they decided that a more structured outlet for both their musical talents and those of fellow musicians in the area was needed.

To avoid the ‘folk’ ‘jazz’ or ‘blues’ label it was decided to form an acoustic music club, and because the Globe did not have the space, the club began in the upper room at the White Hart in 1996 on the first Friday of the month. Six months later it moved to a bigger venue at the back of the pub.

In 1998, after two very successful years, it moved from the White Hart to the Victoria Rooms and regularly attracts an audience of about 80 on Friday Nights.
