RETIRED sales representative Nicholas Gubb took his own life just days after refusing help from a mental health services team, an inquest heard.

Somerset assistant Coroner Vanessa McKinlay was told Mr Gubb had a history of anxiety and depression and was under the care of his GP.

Mr Gubb, who was aged 77, had been reviewed by mental health services staff on October 2 last year when he reported having suicidal thoughts.

However, Mr Gubb declined any further input from the team.

He was then reviewed by his GP on October 6, when he denied any plans to harm himself.

Ms McKinlay was told Mr Gubb’s wife Cherie found him at their home in Heatherton Park Road, West Buckland, near the World’s End public house, on October 18.

Paramedics and police attempted resuscitation but Mr Gubb died at the scene.

Ms McKinlay concluded Mr Gubb’s death was suicide by hanging.
