ONE of Wellington’s largest employers is taking on new workers at its Chelston Business Park factory.

VPK Packaging, which employs more than 120 local people, is looking to take on production operators to work across its day and night shifts.

The fresh recruitment drive comes after a £75million investment in its Wellington factory to extend its warehouse and introduce “state of the art” machinery.

It follows a similar campaign by the Belgium-based company last year to boost its workforce in its local packaging plant.

VPK are advertising for day shift workers at a rate of £12.57, rising to £16.27 with skills and experience, and night workers starting at £13.82, increasing to £17.90.

The firm has seven plants across the UK and Ireland, creating corrugated packaging for consumer goods and other items from recycled paper.

VPK employs more than 6,000 workers globally across 70 sites, and posts billions of pounds in turnover each year.
