THIS was the damage a lorry caused to the railings outside Shauls bakery at the main town centre junction in Wellington last Thursday.
Onlooker Bran Magee said what he described as ‘the longest lorry I have ever seen’ was trying to get from South Street to North Street at about 2pm.
Mr Magee added: “The driver had the almost impossible task of performing this manoeuvre without clear sight of the tail end of the vehicle. By no more than a few inches the rear of the vehicle just failed to clear the railings.”
He said that he and other passers-by managed to stand clear of the incident.
One woman said she was just about to cross the road when the incident took place. “I feel like a cat with nine lives,” she joked.
