LOCAL skittles players are doing their bit to help ensure the future of Wiveliscombe’s outdoor swimming pool.

Chris Briggs and Martin Greenway, who play in the Bird in the Hand public house, in Bishops Lydeard, presented a £1,000 cheque to Wivey Pool chairman Liz Hurry.

The pair are lifetime friends, having swum in the pool as children, farmed together, and played skittles together for more than 40 years.

They were accompanied by their grandchildren as they made the cheque presentation.

The money was raised by keeping a ‘change’ jar on the pub bar for each skittles match.

Ms Hurry said: “They feel very strongly that they want the pool to keep going for their grandchildren.

“Wivey Pool thank them for their generosity which will go towards maintaining the pool, which will be 100 years old in 2027.”

Wivey Pool is one of the oldest in Somerset and has 27-metre outdoor heated pool.
