Lidl has announced a further delay to the opening of its Wellington store.
The German supermarket giant has confirmed its Wellington store will no longer open on Thursday March 23.
A new date of Thursday April 6 has been set for the store opening, with a spokesperson blaming bad weather for the delay.
It comes after Lidl sent out leaflets in error last month, advertising that the store would open on February 23.
After the error, the chain said the store would open on March 23. Lidl put up banners around the Cades roundabout site reading "Drum roll please, opens Thurs March 23."
The project has encountered some difficulties, with the store chain apologising after 'furore' erupted over traffic measures at Cades roundabout for infrastructure works relating to the development.
A spokesperson said at the time: "We would like to apologise for the temporary disruption while these improvements are carried out and look forward to opening the doors to our new store in the coming weeks.”
Concern has also been raised about the removal of a hedge on the site. Wellington town Cllr Mike McGuffie said the removal would "make the view of the building overbearing on the drive into Wellington."
A spokesperson for Somerset West and Taunton Council said at the time: "An enforcement officer has recently visited and is satisfied that the works comply with the permission granted and the conditions which require the replacement of the former hedgerow with new trees and shrubs."
Construction on the supermarket began last June, with an initial progress report declaring an intent to open by Christmas. By August it was reported that date had been pushed forward to the following Spring.
When Somerset West and Taunton Council approved planning permission for the project, it noted there were 500 letters in support and just 26 against.
The development with an access off Nynehead Road will enable further investment in the area and the access will also serve a proposed new railway station for Wellington.
