THE £3.6 million development of 26 new affordable homes at Rockwell Green has been completed.
The Somerset West and Taunton Council (SWAT) scheme to regenerate the area included demolishing the Weavers Arms pub, the next door public toilet block and ten Woolaway properties in Oaken Ground.
The new sustainable homes are a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties including flats, houses and bungalows.
The modern, energy efficient homes with car parking meet a range of housing needs. Five of the new homes have been built to wheelchair-accessible standards.
All 26 homes at the Weavers Arms site are affordable housing – subsidised, unlike open market housing – with the aim of meeting the needs of local people who may be priced out of other properties.
Two of the homes have been sold as shared ownership to broaden the type of tenures available and offer a form of low-cost home ownership.
Shane Smith, development manager at SWAT, said: “We are so pleased to complete this development of 26 affordable homes in Wellington.
“These new properties are great quality, roomy and energy-efficient, and should make a real difference to the lives of people who will live in them.”
