A COUNCILLOR campaigning to have poor signs at car parks in Wellington improved has had a positive response from the Somerset Council.
Cllr Keith Wheatley, of Wellington Town Council, recently highlighted the defective and shoddy signs which can be found at the car parks in North Street, Longforth Road and South Street.
And Cllr Wheatley, speaking at the town council’s economic development committee on October 16, said he had had a response from Somerset Council – which owns the car parks – about the signs.
“They said that the signs were in a very bad state,” he said. “I was told that Somerset Council is looking at signage across the county with a view to improving.”
Cllr Wheatley, clearly not celebrating just yet that the car parks will be given a touch of TLC despite Somerset Council’s response, added: “We won’t let go of this one.”
He said the car park signs were so untidy and cluttered with posters that they looked awful and that ticket machines were also covered in bits of sticky tape.
Cllr Wheatley, speaking previously about the signs, said: “For many people who don’t live here the first impressions visitors to the town get will be the car parks at North Street, Longforth Road and South Street.
“But when they go to get a ticket and they look at the signs they will be thinking – what sort of town is this? The signs are ugly, unimaginative and shabby.”
Cllr Wheatley was thanked by town council colleagues for his efforts.
