THE centre of Hemyock came to a standstill as a national two-minute silence was observed on both Remembrance Sunday (November 10) and Armistice Day.
Sunday saw a parade process from the parish hall to St Mary’s Church which was led by the church choir and included a large contingent from 1st Hemyock Scout Group and many parishioners.
There was standing room only for the service, which was taken by the Rev Canon Becky Totterdell assisted by lay reader Liz Langdon.
A reading was given by honorary poppy organiser David Bawler, and Tim Barton gave the Exhortation at the war memorial.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of the parish council, scout sections, and Hemyock Primary School.
Armistice Day saw more than 40 people gather at the village’s war memorial for a short act of commemoration.
Lay minister Dr David Major led the service with retired Major General Shaun Burley giving the Exhortation.
