Coronavirus prevention measures

WELLINGTON School, which has 800 students, including many from China and Hong Kong, is continuing to take all possible steps to avoid an outbreak of coronavirus.

The school is advising students from abroad about the seriousness of the outbreak, and has banned all ‘visits to the school by prospective parents and agents from China and Hong Kong’.

Any students visiting China and Hong Kong over the half-term or Easter will be expected to ‘self-quarantine’ on their return. As the virus continues to spread, the World Health Organisation has said it is ‘the worst enemy you can ever imagine’ and poses a greater global threat than terrorism.

The death toll for the outbreak in mainland China had reached nearly 1,900 on Tuesday with the elderly and young most at risk.

Wellington School issued the following statement this week: Wellington School continues to carefully monitor and react appropriately to the threat of coronavirus. The school is following the advice of Public Health England and is receiving regular updates on the situation from the Boarding Schools Association.

The health and safety of our children, and indeed everyone in the Wellington community, remains my highest priority, said headmaster Eugene du Toit.
