THE Liberal Democrats are celebrating victory in Somerset where they have taken seven out of 10 seats in a General Election which has brought an end to Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Government.

Gideon Amos swept to victory in a much anticipated Taunton and Wellington poll with 24,331 votes giving him a majority of 11,939 over Conservative Rebecca Pow’s 12,392, proving to be almost a complete reversal of the 2019 General Election.

The party also took Frome and East Somerset, Glastonbury and Somerton, Tiverton and Minehead, Wells and Mendip, Yeovil and Bath, with Labour claiming Weston-super-Mare and North East Somerset and Hanham, with Bridgwater being the only conservative constituency in the county.

The Conservative Party have been in power since they formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats in 2010.
