BOTH fire engines from Wellington battled a blaze in the town on Wednesday, May 29, which resulted in a garage being burned to the ground.
Firefighters were joined by back up from Taunton which sent two crews in support of the efforts to battle the blaze in Immenstadt Drive.
An eyewitness described “billowing black clouds” of smoke rising into the sky as fire fighters set about dampening down the flames with their hoses.
The fire, which is thought to have been caused accidentally, destroyed the garage, its entire contents and damaged a neighbouring property and nearby car.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: “We were called to attend a fire that had started in a domestic garage at Immenstadt Drive in Wellington.
“The garage and its contents were completely destroyed by fire while a neighbouring property and a vehicle outside the garage also sustained some fire and smoke damage.”
