A BIG fundraising event is being planned in April to raise money for charity in memory of Elliot ‘Sparky’ Sparks who lost his life in a car crash on the A38 near the Beambridge.

’Sparky’ died in late March of 2021 on a notorious blackspot where there have been at least nine fatalities over the past 20 years.

Cm events based at Wellington are to hold a charity meet in Westonzoyland - at a learner driver area - on April 2.

Michelle Cox, who is promoting the event on behalf of his family and friends, said: “We are welcoming all car make models and motorcycles for a strictly static meet.

“Sparky would love it if we could all show his loved ones, family and friends how much support they really have around them and the main thing he would love is for everyone to have fun.

“There will be refreshments and stall holders in attendance alongside plenty of videographers and photographers and also TV news coverage.”

A court case was held at Taunton Crown Court at the end of December in which Wellington businessman David Knight, 46, of Richards Close, Wellington, was jailed for nearly two-and-a-half years after admitting causing the death by dangerous driving of Elliott, 35, who lived at Dyers Close, West Buckland.

The court was told that ’Sparky’ was loved and adored by his family and friends, who had been left utterly devastated and desolate by his death.
