FORMER Wellington School student Seb Woodhouse has completed a 'gruelling' marathon to raise funds for the Zimbabwe Educational Trust.
Seb, 23, ran the equivalent of 55 Victoria Falls turned longways, on Crowcombe Hill on January 6.
The endurance feat, which involved ascending the hill 34 times, has helped Seb raise more than 90 per cent of his fundraising goal. He is now hoping for local support to get him over the line via his Just Giving page.
Commenting after completing the run, Seb said: "I completed the grueling run up Crowcombe Hill on Saturday, January 6. It took eleven hours total to climb the hill 34 times, including 8 hours and 38 minutes of actual moving time (not eating, getting a lift down etc).
"Fortunately, the weather was lovely on the day, so my spirits remained high, especially once I got past the halfway mark. I began at 6:30 am and finished 5:30 pm starting and finishing in the dark. I'm feeling a bit sore now, but I am very happy to have raised so much toward my target so far."
The Zimbabwe Educational Trust (ZET) is a small UK-based charity dedicated to addressing these challenges through three core initiatives by supporting local partner organisations: Trinity Project, Rafiki Girls Centre, and Foundations for Farming.
Seb said he hoped his marathon would help to raise funds and awareness to the 'crucial mission' of alleviating poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.
