UNIVERSITY Centre Somerset’s ‘Class of 2024’ celebrated their graduation ceremony, which was held in Wellsprings Leisure Centre.
More than 200 students graduated from subjects including animal management, engineering, media make-up, education, and counselling.
They included 22 who were the first UCS cohort of BSc (Hons) Nursing graduates, who are all now working as registered nurses in healthcare settings across Somerset.
Guests included Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset Colin Drummond, MP Gideon Amos, High Sheriff of Somerset Robert Beckley, and Mayor of Taunton Cllr Vanessa Garside.
Prizes for exceptional students to recognise their outstanding commitment and achievement went to Business Management HND graduates Henry Morris and Cameron White, Samantha Knight, who obtained a BSc (Hons) Animal Management and Wildlife Conservation, Postgraduate Certificate in Education graduate Kate Gibbs, and Liam Arscott, a BSc (Hons) Agricultural Management graduate.
The ceremony closed with the student vote of thanks by Lucy Clapham, a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies, who said: “I will always drive past the building with nostalgia, pride, and a sense of belonging.’
UCS principal and chief executive Andy Berry said: “Today marked a milestone in the history of UCS.
“Our vision is to transform lives and communities through effective partnerships that positively impact our students.
“We are the first college in the country to deliver nursing degrees.
“Today, 22 nursing students graduated and have secured roles in our communities, providing desperately needed skills.
“This achievement truly demonstrates our vision in action.”
UCS, part of Bridgwater and Taunton College, offers higher education courses at campuses in Taunton, Bridgwater, and Cannington.
