FIRE crews were called after a car burst into flames on the M5, near Wellington, at the weekend.
Two fire engines from Taunton fire station responded to the incident on Saturday, June 15, after a car on the hard shoulder caught alight.
The car was severely damaged by the blaze, with crews deploying two hoses to extinguish the fire.
It is understood nobody was injured in the incident, which took place near junction 26.
In a statement a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: “Two appliances form Taunton were mobilised following a report from a passer-by of a car fire in the M5.
“On arrival at the scene crew confirmed one car on the hard shoulder involved in fire and got to work to extinguish.
“Crew extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one thermal image camera and cutting equipment. The car was severely damaged by fire.”
