BOOKING is now open for both members and non-members of the West Country Concertina Players (WCCP) who are now able to secure their places for this year’s highly anticipated.
The event is entitled ‘Beginners' Weekend’ and will take place at a brand-new venue, inside Wellington School, from October 18-20.
This year, the players’ new venue offers a fantastic space with several advantages over their usual meeting space at Quantock Lodge.
WCCP have opened their bookings much earlier this year as there are fewer residential rooms to accommodate guests available compared to Quantock Lodge (22 rooms/44 beds versus around 70). This allows those interested in attending more time to arrange other accommodation nearby.
While the weekend is geared towards those new to playing, more experienced musicians are also welcome to attend.
The tuition will cater to four key groups:
- Absolute Beginners: Those who have never played before and are unfamiliar with the layout of the instrument.
- Post-Beginners: Players with minimal experience who have started to grasp the basics of the instrument's layout.
- Improvers: Those who have been playing for several months, understand the layout of the fingerboard (including F#, C#, and Bb), and can read music at a basic level.
- Intermediate Players: Musicians who can play and read music with reasonable fluency, albeit at a modest tempo.
There is also space on site for camper vans. The town is small, easy to get around, and the school is centrally located.
A limited number of club instruments are available for use across all systems, making the weekend accessible to those without their own equipment.

The event is running from October 18020 2024 at Wellington School.
